An old side name that my old crew used to hit up in the late 80’s “ren” or VC Ren.. I’ve been wanting to do something with 3 letters since my style seems to stretch out so much, a 3 letter name would come in handy for fitting into tighter spots. I think I’ll keep playing with this one.
#60 Puting in Work, after Work
After work, I met up with the young homie Asid and photographer Mags for # 60. I’ve been wanting to do some color pieces after all the silvers I’ve been doing, so I came up with this little freestyle joint. I laid out both the outlines then let asid go to work on his own after that. He came off pretty good using all rusto. I went with a lower case e in an attempt to switch it up and followed Asids lead with the square two tone 3D. Hope you dig it, on to the next.

#54 Rest in Peace Sean P
I was out in an old SD yard doing pieces early Saturday morning and just as I was finishing my second one, I got a text saying “I hope this isn’t true..” with a link to a news story..I stopped what I was doing real quick to see what it was about and clicked the link to see that it was a report on the death of Sean Price. Wow, hard to believe. I thew up a quick RIP next to my piece and bounced. On the way home I passed by Writers Blok and saw it was open so I dropped in adn knocked out this tribute before heading home. I’m not much of a character guy, but I think I was able to do a decent job on the Sean Price BBoy character. Ruck will be missed for sure…Respect.
#53 Sitting On Chrome
After finishing one silver for #52, I still had more than enough paint in my bag for another one, so I dropped this one the same morning. I really wasn’t feeling it at all, and I almost abandoned the piece after I seen some lady watching me from a 2nd story window afar. That building wasn’t there 25 years ago, but while some things change, others don’t, and people in this neighborhood are not too keen on calling the cops, so I stuck with it and it came out alright and I actually kind of liked it in the end, and no sign of the Babylonians..I remember Quasar or Sake telling me about some old lady that would come out and give you lemonade if you were piecing the wall across from her back yard near this spot..Back then you worried about the Gang Bangers from the neighborhood and less about cops. It was a good morning to be out and about and taking in the history.
#52 Back to My Roots..
I took a trip to an old spot that used to be poppin in the 80’s…old school San Diego kings like Phantasm (sake), Quasar, Dest, Izzy, Zeno, Max, Zard, Raid, Kazi, Buster, Etc..all had pieces here back in 85-87. When I was just a toy, I would go here to flick the pieces with my 110 camera. In 88 I was skilled enough to put up a piece here with Shok VCR and Space DBL, which would be the first of many that I would put up here. This spot had a variety of spaces, railroad/trolley tressel walls, tunnels, bridges and the angled pit walls that were popular for huge productions by Quasar and Sake. Pieces were still being put up here up until about 89-90 Until writers started moving on to to other spots in the city like the Euclid pit and Olive St. Anyways, it was good to be back, although there were zero remnants of the old days, the fade of the sun and the buff have pretty much taken all of that out, sadly and I did look pretty hard. More on this spot in my next post…
